About Us
Ubuntu: I am because we are
Queer Motherland seeks to reclaim the erased histories of queer Africans, honor the ancestors who lived in silence, and empower today’s generation to embrace their full selves. By exploring intersectionality and exposing colonial roots of homophobia, we aim to inspire collective healing, cultural remembrance, and a liberated future where African queerness is no longer denied but celebrated.

About the Founder
Olive Okoro (she/they) is the founder of Queer Motherland. Olive is a lesbian Nigerian immigrant who founded the nonprofit due to the lack of representation and educational materials given to the advocacy towards queer Africans across the diaspora. She is a content creator who uses her platform to advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and all people from all walks of life. Olive uses her platform to build the Queer Motherland name and spread the message for all queer Africans to know that they are loved and that there is a community dedicated to aiding each other.
